Myxoid Liposarcoma of the Parietal Peritoneum

Abstract

Myxoid liposarcoma is the most common subtype of liposarcomas, constituting approximately 40-50%. The tumor is found in adults with a peak incidence in the fifth decade of life. There is a pre dilection for extremities, especially the thigh. The second most common site is the retroperitoneum It typically presents a slow growing, deep seated, and ill defined mass that is fairly large, but asy mptomatic in most cases. We experienced a case with myxoid liposarcoma of a 57-year-old woman who had complained of right upper quadrant pain. Laboratory data were within normal limits. On abdominal CT, a well defined round mass originating from right upper parietal peritoneum was detected. This mass showed peripheral enhanced pattern. Surgical excision was performed and tumor size was 6.5 x 4 x 3.2 cm. The histopathologic analysis showed the characteristics of myxoid liposar coma. Following surgery, the patient was treateded with external radiation. The patient have been well for the following four months.
