Radiological findings of cysticercosis of central nervous system

Abstract

Because cysticercosis of central nervous system manifests protean variety of clinical symptoms andradiological findings, correct diagnosis is difficult. But, if possible, surgical removal is treatment of choiceand prognosis is relatively good. Main radiological findings of CNS cysticercosis are plain skull calcification,hydrocephalus, cystic filling defects in ventricles and subarachnoid spaces of brain and spinal cord. 6 cases ofcysticercosis of central nervous system were experienced in radiological department of SNUH in recent 6 years.site of occurance of the 6 cases are as follows; 1 case of 3rd. ventricle, 2 of 4th. ventricle, 1 of basalcistern, 1 of intramedulla of cervical cord, 1 as mixed form of 4th. ventricle and lumbar subarachnoid space.Diagnostic possiblity of cysticercosis of central nervous system should be considered in epileptic patients andpatients of hydrocephalus especially with cystic mass in ventiricles or cisterns.
