Abstract

Pineal germinoma is one of the most radiosensitive intracranial tumors and not infrequently spreads through the subarachnoid space. We have experienced a case of pineal germinoma, which had been treated by deep radiotherapy over the cranium with V-A shunt and 14 months later, spinal metastasis occurred. Brain CT scan showed no evididence of intracranial recurrence and myelography showed total block of dye column from L2 to L5 level. Operation revealed intradural tumors, and histopathological diagnosis was germinoma. After total laminectomy from L2 to L5 with biopsy, spinal axis irradiation was performed with symptomatic improvement.
