A Case of Anaphylaxis after Drinking a Beverage

Abstract

We experienced a 32-year-old female patient who suffered from anaphylaxis immediately after drinking a beverage. The skin prick test showed sensitization to the beverage itself. The oral provocation test was performed with each of raw materials donated from the manufacturing company. The positive reaction was documented after administrating one diluent of the raw materials, which is one of poly-saccharides family (galactooligosaccharide, GOS). Trace amount of proteins was detected in GOS syrup and serum specific IgE to GOS syrup was detected by ELISA. We confirmed food allergy to allergens which may be impurities in one of raw materials of the beverage.
