Testicular Tumors in Children: A Review of 17 cases

Abstract

Clinicopathologic observation of testicular tumors in children was made on 17 cases admitted to the Department of Urology, Keimyung University Hospital, during the period from January. 1977 to December, 1986. 1. Among the 29 testicular tumor, 17(58.6% ) were testicular tumor in children. Age distribution was between 3 months and 13 years old, showing the highest incidence under 2 years old age group( 70.6%). 2. Among 17 children with testis tumor, 16 cases were germ cell tumors which consisted of 8 cases of bengn teratoma, 7 cases of yolk sac tumor and 1 case of teratocarcinoma. The remaiining was nongerm cell tumors with testicular involvement of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. 3. In 66.7 % (6/9) of the germ cell tumors excluding teratoma either AFP or hCG was elevated. 4. An overall 2 year survival rate in 7 yolk sac tumor was 71.4%. 4 cases of yolk sac tumor ( stage I ) were all survived more than 2 years followed up by surveillance only following radical orchiectomy.
