A Case of Interstitial Pneumonitis after Interferon Therapy for Chronic Hepatitis C

Abstract

Interferon has been effective in treatment of viral hepatitis. However, side effects have been reported and they are related to dosage and frequency of administration. The common side effects are flu-like symptoms such as general myalgia, fever, arthralgia, headache, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia. Interstitial pneumonitis after interferon therapy are reported rarely and those are related to high dosage and long term therapy. We report a rare case of interstitial pneumonitis developed shortly after low dose interferon therapy with a review of the literatures.
