Mobile Health for Health Management of the Elderly

Abstract

As population is getting older, the incidence of chronic diseases is gradually increasing. So, to manage chronic disease, it’s crucial to manage their own health in their daily lives. Because of that, the elderly concerns about their health more than the past. With the help of development in information technology, smartphone has been used for an essential tool for staying healthy. Nowadays, most m-health services for the elderly are helping elderly people living alone such as supporting self-life management, guiding to take a medicine and making an appointment service for the clinic. And those services are reported continuously as positive way. However, there are still many difficulties for the elderly to use new technologies such as smart phone, because the elderly are usually facing obstacles when they meet a new technology. Due to various limits, current m-health has been limited to simply managing their health in the daily lives. But sooner or later, it will be enlarged to m-healthcare which contains the interventions and managements of the medical team. Therefore, m-health (m-healthcare) will take up a key role for elderly patient’s healthcare.
