Abstract

This paper deals with the methods used, the results obtained, and the details of treatment in 33 patients with suppurative arthritis on the hip joint, from Orthopedic Department of the National Medical Center in Korea. This group includes those cases treated since January, 1962 to July 1973. 1. The incidence of the septic hip was two times in the male than in the female as 22 versus 11, and it was higher in the age group of 13-20 years in the male and female coincidentally. 2. Majority of the causative microorganism was staphylococcus aureus as 24 out of 30 cultures (68.6%). 3. In reference with prognosis, early diagnosis was considered to be imperative as known. 4. Arthrotomy was mainly used for the patients with relative short duration within three weeks. 5. The incidence of complication was accordingly proportional to the duration of disease. 6. The results of the treatment was evaluated with Melvin B. Watkin's rating, and the result of arthrotomy gave better than that of aspirations.
