Computed tomographic features of cerebellar hemangioblastoma

Abstract

Computed tomographic and angiographic findings of 6 proven cerebellar hemangioblastoma seen in this hospitalduring last 2 years were analyzed. The results were as follows; 1. Except one 14 years old female, all of themwere 37 to 48 years old males. 2. The operative findings of the tumors were 3 cystic tumors with mural nodules and3 solid tumors. CT findings were: 3. Of three cases of cystic cerebellar hemangioblastomas, 2 cases revealedcharacteristic CT findings such as: a. In precontrast study, a well defined round lower density containing oneisodense nodule in its periphery was seen in each case. The absorption coefficiency of each lower density wasaround 5 EMI unit. b. In post contrast study, the nodules were enhanced densely and homogenously while the lowerdensities remain unchanged. 4. Of three cases of solid cerebellar hemangioblastoma, 2 cases revealed isodense masssuggested by mass effect such as displaced 4th ventricle and peripheral edema in precontrast study, while theremaining cases revealed ill defined slightly high density with pripheral edema. In postcontrast study, the 2isodense masses showed well circumscribed homogenous enhancement with central slight lower density in one of them,while high density mass revealed no enhancement at all. 5. The vertebral angiography performed in 5 cases revealedhigh vascular tumors with feeding arteries, draining veins and increased circulation time. 6. The tumor blusingseen in vertebral angiography was correlated to the postcontrast enhancement of solid tumos and mural nodules incystic hemangioblastoma.
