Abstract

Arthralgia is one of the most common complaints of the patients. Among the different diseases causing arthralgia, the first step is to differentiate arthralgia from non-articular pain. Then, specific arthritic disease can be identified by their specific characteristics. Arthritis can be divided by several characteristics, which include acuteness (acute vs chronic), number of joints involved (monoarticular, oligoarticular, polyarticular), severity of inflammation in the joints (inflammatory, non-inflammatory), pattern of joint involvement (axial, peripheral) and temporal pattern of arthritis (persistent, intermittent, migrating, additive). Demographic features and characteristics of arthritis are key to the correct diagnosis of arthritis.
