Clinical Observation of Lidocaine Toxicity

Abstract

Regional block with Lidocaine HCl was given in 59 subjects and the conclusion was as follows: The toxic signs occurred in 7 subjects. 2. With large does of Lidocaine, toxic sign occurred in brachial plexus block and sciatic and femoral nerve block. 3. The toxic symptoms were mainly hypotension, hypertension, bradycardia, convulsion and vertigo. 4. The toxic symptoms recovered completely under the adequate medicationsa and resuscitation. 5. It is concluded that the careful Lidocaine regional block was safe and effective for the extremity surgery, and for the patients to whom general anesthesia. are centraindicated It is the best procedurs for the operation requiring less than 2 hours. However a high percentage of side reactions may occur with excess dose.
