Abstract
- Inflammatory pseudotumor is a pathologic term to denote a tumor like mass lesion, among which plasma cell granuloma is composed predominantly of reactive plasma cells. While plasma cell granuloma occurs in lung, abdomen, trunk, extremity, and head and neck, it is rare in the oral cavity. Although the etiology is still unknown, it is thought to be inflammation, unusual tissue response to injury, altered antigen-antibody reaction of the host or auto-immune reaction. Plasma cell granuloma occurs at any age. It is important to do excisional biopsy to distinguish plasma cell granuloma from plasmacytoma which is the precursor of multiple myeloma. Recurrence is rare. We report a case of plasma cell granuloma of gingiva observed in our clinic with good prognosis after gingivectomy was done.
