A Study of the Paper Electrophoretic Patterns of Inactive Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients` Sera

Abstract

Electrophoretic studies of the serum protein changes in human pulmonary tuberculosis have been reported by Seibert and others since after the earliest attempt was made by Becquerel and Rodier These studies showed that as the disease progressed, there were increases in the albumin, and it was suggested that increase in gamma globulin was due to antibody formation. The present work was carried out in order to confirm the findings of Seibert and others, particularly about pulmonary tuberculosis in Korean, and to establish certain basis for Korean, because almost no attempt has been made in this field. Lee (973) made a study an active pulmonary tuberculous sera, and reported changes of paper electrophoretic patterns. This recent work is particularly designed to confirm the pattern of inactive sera of patients. FoIIowing results have been obtained through the study of 38 cured tuberculosis patients(pulmonary tuberculosis, inactive). 1. The electrophoretic patterns of inactive pulmonary tuberculosis patients showed a tendency to restore toward normal control. 2. Albumin fraction of electrophoresis was stilI significantly low and alpha-1-globulin fraction was stilI significantly high. 3. A / G ratio was stilI low and most significant difference among fractions of sera. 4. Alpha-2-globulin, betta-globulin and gamma-globulin fractions were almost restored to the normal control. 5. Restoration of alpha-2-globulin may suggest cessation of destructive process.
