A Study on Previous Chemotherapy of New Amdission Tuberculosis Cases

Abstract

For the purpose of evaluating the recent anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy at the outside of tuberculosis sanatorium, we observed and analyzed 633 pulmonary tuberculosis cases who were hospitalized to the National Masan Tuberculosis Hospital from January to December in 1975. Sex and distribution of 633 patients in this study was 439 males and 194 females, the peak was 20-29 years of age group on both sex. The youngest in the group was 14 and the oldest 69. The duration of symptoms were 1-3 years (27.8%), more than 5 years (26.2%), and less than 6 months (15.5%) According to chest x-ray findings, moderately advanced was 52.9%, far advanced 38.7% and minimal 8.4%, and those with cavities was 84.0%. Those who has been treated with anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy regularly before admission to this hospital was 35.1%. The places for medication were health center in 60.3%, private clinic 28.6% and general hospital, 11.0%. The duration of medication were 1-3 years 34. 6%, 3-6 months 15.5%, less than 3 months 14.4%, and more than 5 years was 9.6%. Previous initial chemotherapy was as following: standard triple drugs 63.5%; isoniazid plus PAS 10.4%; isoniazid plus streptomycin 3.2%; and isoniazid alone was only 0.2%. Also standard regimen with secondary drugs was 22.6%.
