Diagnostic Value of Immunoglobulin in Malignant Pleural Effusions

Abstract

In an attempt to differentiate malignant plerual effusion from non-malignant plerual effusion, immunoglobulin measurements were carried out in patients with plerual effusions. Then mean pleural fluid j serum ratios of immunoglobulin subclass IgG, IgA, IgM were compared. The results were as followings: 1) The comparison of the amount of IgG, IgA, IgM between malignant and non-malignant pleural effusion showed no statistical difference. 2) There were no statistically significant differences in mean pleural fluid j serum ratios of IgG and IgA, but IgM ratio was increased significantly in non-malignant pleural effusions.
