A study on lactic dehydrogenase activity of tuberculous pleural effusion

Abstract

Lactic dehydrogenase activites in pleural effusions were studied with 25 tuberculous pleural effusion cases, 4 pleural transudates and 2 malignant pleural effusions. also protein contents and specificgravities were studied in th e pleural effusions and following results, were obtained. 1. 1n tuberculous pleural effusions mean lactic dehydrogenase activity wwas 411. 6 units/ ml and 13 cases were above 550 units/ml 12 cases were less than 550 units/ml by Wroblewski units that it iudicatis some differential diagnostic value from transudates. 2. Proteincontents of tuberculous pleursl effusions were above 3gm/ 100ml in all cases that differential diagnostic value of tuberculous effusion from tronsudates by protein contents was significant. 3. Specific gravities of tubereclouis pleural effusious were above 1. 018 in all cases that differcutial diagnostic value of tubereulous effusion from transudatis by specific gravity was also significant.
