Recent changes of colonic diverticulosis in Korea

Abstract

Colonic diverticulosis in Korea was considered as a rare disease, but recently increasing tendency of colonicdiverticulosis were reported, and right side preponderance was also noted compared with left side preponderance of western country. Authors reviewed 818 cases of colon study performed from Jan 1st, 1982 to May 31 th, 1984 at the Department of Radiology, Chung-Ang University hospital. The results were as follows. 1. Diverticuli of colon were observed in 45 cases (5.5%) out of 818 colon study. 2. Male is more frequently affected (32 out of 441, 7.2%) than female (13 out of 377, 3.5%). 3. 5th decade is the predilection age group but occurence in younger age group is increasing. 4. Diverticulosis may occur single or multiple with variable size in entire colon except rectum butright side preponderance is ramarkable. 5. Complications were observed in 6 cases (13.3%)
