ECG gated magnetic resonance imaging in normal heart

Abstract

MR imaging of normal heart was done in 7 Volunteers who had no clinical evidence of cardiobascular disease, using KAIS 0.15 Tesla resistive magnet imaing system. Saturation recovery with spin echo technique was imagingmethod. Echo delay (TE) was 32 msec. and repetition time was the same with pulse (R-R) interval since ECG gatingwas applied. EAch imaging scan consisted of 6 slices, of which thickness was 15mm and imaging time was 15 minutes.Findings of MR imaging of normal hearts were analysed and the results were as follows; 1. Several normalanatomical structures including both atrioventricular chambers, septums and great vessels were well identifiedusing ECG gating techniuqe by natural contrast between vessel or cardiac wall and blood flow without usingcontrast media. 2. In addition to the transaxial, sagittal and coronal sections, oblique 45degrees/ 45degreesrevealed those normal anatomical structures of normal heart. ECG gated MR imaging is expected to be a very usefulmodality in the diagnosis of congenital and acquired heart disease in the future.
