Lipiodol accumulation in hepatic hemangioma

Abstract

In order to establish differential features of hemangioma, lipiodol was superselectively infused in threecases of hepatic hemangioma through the proper or a distal branch hepatic artery following hepatic angiogram.Thereafter a plain x-ray of the abdomen and CT were obtained. The present study revealed accumulation of lipiodol within abnormal vascular spaces of hemangioma to be multiple, stippled, dense and discrete. Follow-up plainabdomen and CT(6 months, 8 months, and 9 months, respectively) demonstrated very slow clearing of lipiodolaccumulation without change in size. These findings are considered to be pathognomonic of hemangioma.
