Abstract

Congenital melanocytic nevi are usually classified as small, medium-sized, and large according to their size. Many authors suggest that the risk for the occurrence of malignant melanoma may roughly be proportional to the size of underlying congenital melanocytic nevus. However, the risk of melanoma in medium-sized congenital melanocytic nevi is a controversial subject and universal recommendations regarding the management of such lesions has not been made. We present a 62-year old man with a medium-sized congenital melanocytic nevus in which malignant melanoma developed.
