Abstract

Myocardial bridge has the clinical significance in leading to an increased probability of serious cardiac diseases such as angina, cardiac ischemia, myocardial infarction, ventricular tachycardia and sudden cardiac death. There are few articles that analyze the myocardial bridge for long-term clinical follow-up. Forty-nine patients (33 male and 16 female, 49+/-11 years) who had been diagnosed as myocardial bridge at Chonnam National University Hospital between 1996 and 1999 were subjected to the study. The mean length of clinical follow-up was 73.1+/-23.5 months. The most common site of myocardial bridge was middle left anterior descending artery (47 patients, 95.9%). Forty-five patients had received medical treatment, and four patients were treated by stent implantation. Three patients with medical treatment died during the follow-up. Two patients with stent implantation developed in-stent restenosis. In conclusion, Korean patients with myocardial bridge have relatively good long-term prognosis and the most common site is left anterior descending artery.
