A Case Report of Food-dependent Exercise-induced Anaphylaxis to Apples

Abstract

We here report a case with apple-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis, the first case in Korea. A 23-year-old Korean female patient presented with urticaria, angioedema, and dizziness during mountain climbing. A detailed clinical history revealed that she ingested apple 30 minutes before mountain climbing. Prick to prick skin test to apple showed a positive result. The exercise provocation test or the oral challenge test alone showed a negative result. However, the exercise provocation test after apple ingestion resulted in severe anaphylactic reaction. She was diagnosed as having food-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis to apples, and was instructed to avoid exercise after apple ingestion in the future.
