A Clinical Study on Pregnancy-Induced Hypertension

Abstract

A Clinical study was undertaken on 112 cases of Pregnancy Induced Hypertension, who were admitted to department of Obstet & Gynecol, KonKuk University Hospital, College of Medicine, KonKuk University, for the period from January 1992 to December 1996. The results were as follows; 1. The incidence of Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) was 2.3 % of total deliveries. 2. Using the Classification of American Committee on Maternal Welfare, the incidence of PIH was as follows; mild preeclampsia 37.5 % severe preeclampsia 59.8 % eclampsia 2.7 % 3. Among 112 cases, 50.0 % of the patients were in the age group of 25~29. 4. The incidience of PIH was slightly higher in nulliparity group. 5. The highest incidence of PIH in gestational age was 37~40 weeks (59.8 %). 6. 13.4 % of patients were delivered vaginally (3.6 % spontaneous, 9.8 % labor induction)and 86.6 % of patients were delivered by cesarean section. 7. The highest incidence of body weight of newborn infant was between 2000 and 2499 gm, which was 32.6 % of the PIH cases. 8. Sex ratio of the newborn infant was as follows; Male 40.9 %, Female 59.1 % 9. The incidence of PIH in multiple pregnancy was significantly higher than in singleton pregnancy. 10. As to maternal complications, anemia 62.7 %, abruptio placenta 6.9 % were found. 11. As to fetal and neonatal complications, intrauterine growth retardation 35.0 %, fetal distress syndrome 25.0 %, meconium stained 23.4 % were found.
