Abstract

Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis is an unusual chronic and severe renal in- fection that is characterized by extensive destruction of renal parenchyme and presence of lipid-laden macrophage. An accurate preoperative diagnosis is difficult because there is no single cha- racteristic clinical or radiological feature to diagnosis this rare disease. Herein we report a case of xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis in a 49 year old female which was associated with renal staghorn calculi.
