Abstract

Aneurysmal dilatation of the portal vein is very rare, and its clinical importance and natural history remain unclear. We recently encountered one case of aneurysmal dilatation of the portal vein in a 65 year-old male patient with advaneed liver cirrhosis. Ultrasonogram revealed an echogenic mass with hypoechoic rim in the contracted right liver. Abdominal computerized tomography with infusion of contrast material and arteriogram of the superior mesenteric artery demonstrated enhancement of the aneurysmal dilatation identical to that of the 1st bifurcation of the right portal vein during the venous phase.
