Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgery

Abstract
- Recent advances in endoscopic instruments allow us endoluminal therapy for various gastrointestinal diseases and improve quality of life. Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) are representative of gastrointestinal endoscopic surgery, and are now accepted as new treatment modalities for early cancers and premalignant lesions in gastrointestinal tracts. This review mainly discusses the indications and the several techniques of EMR and ESD. ESD makes accurate evaluation of the lesion specimen and the depth of invasion and techniques are limiting factors for complete removal.
