Abstract

An extremity soft tissue sarcoma (STS) is rare and encompasses more than 100 heterogeneous histologic subtypes. Despite the rarity and heterogeneity of STS which complicates the advances in research, attempts are being made to shift from a universal treatment to a more subtype-specific treatment. This review highlights the importance of multidisciplinary management by focusing on the advances of three primary treatment modalities: surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. In addition, the importance of referral to a specialized sarcoma center is discussed.
