Abstract

Cases of dermal necrosis developing after injection of local anesthetics in the upper extremities or face have previously been reported in the literature. However, local anesthetic-induced dermal necrosis in the trunk, such as above the iliac crest, has rarely been reported. This article reports a case of skin necrosis that developed over the iliac crest after injection of a local anesthetic during a surgical procedure. This suggests that close monitoring of skin circulation is required after the administration of articaine–epinephrine in the trunk area to prevent ischemic damage such as dermal necrosis.
