The effects of health empowerment and social support on health promotion behavior in older adults: A cross-sectional study

Abstract

Purpose
This study aimed to identify the health empowerment, social support, and health-promotion behavior of older adults. Furthermore, the factors influencing health-promotion behavior were identified. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted using self-report questionnaires. Questionnaires were disseminated offline and online to a total of 152 older adults from April 26, 2021 to July 15, 2021. Data were analyzed using the t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression. Results: Statistically, health empowerment, social support, and subjective economic status reportedly affected health-promotion behavior, and the total explanation power was 44%. Conclusion: In conclusion, strategies for strengthening health empowerment and social support are needed to increase health-promotion behavior among older adults.
