Abstract

The patellar tendon has a crucial-role in the extension mechanism of the knee joint. If the patellar tendon is injured, it should be diagnosed and treated promptly by surgery. On the other hand, treatment can be very challenging depending on the date of injury and the degree of rupture because an additional reconstruction may be required. Thus, chronic rupture of the patellar tendon is rare, and there are no standard guidelines for the surgical technique. This paper reports a case of the chronic rupture of the patellar tendon that was treated by a reconstruction using the ipsilateral hamstring tendon. Although the patient’s patellar tendon was almost replaced with fibrotic scar tissue, the symptoms resolved completely after primary repair and reconstruction
