Abstract

Healthcare professionals are frequently exposed to hazardous drugs. Such drugs require special precautions because their inherent toxicities pose hazards to the people who handle them. The US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has published a list of hazardous drugs, and the Korea Institute for Healthcare Accreditation (KOIHA) has described the definition and scope of hazardous drugs. Individual medical institutions are responsible for supplementing this list, and this article provides the background information needed to facilitate this process.
