Abstract

Purpose
The purpose of this review is to explore the role of oncology nurses in cancer survivorship care by understanding the concept of cancer survivors and cancer survivor management models.
Methods
This review focused on a search of the related prior literature to identify the role of oncology nurses in the cancer survivor management system, and assessing the current status in Korea and abroad.
Results
Life as a cancer survivor is the longest part of the cancer journey. Cancer survivor health management involves both cancer-related health problems and general health problems, and is a time in which the health management entity shifts from medical institutions to the local community. Cancer survivor management led by medical institutions has limitations when it comes to the overall management of cancer survivors. In particular, nurse-led management can be effective for the management of cancer survivors in the chronic stage.
Conclusion
It is necessary to strengthen the cancer survivor care capabilities of oncologists, such as planning and operating cancer survivor management programs, and to establish administrative and legal roles.
