Clinical Effects of the Capreomycin on Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Abstract

A: Patients. having been on primary triple therapy under the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis. were chosen for the subjects among the ambulatory cases at the Department of Chest Medicine. National Medical Center. B: The subjects were divided into 2 groups and put on the scheduled one year anti-tbc medication during the period of March 1968 to March 1969. The therapeutic regimens were as follows: Group I : 1) PAS-f- INH-f- SM (2.0-3.0 gm / W) for the first 6 months period 2) PAS-f- INH-f-CAPREOMYCIN (2.0-3.0 gm/ W) for the second 6 months period Group ll: 1) PAS-f- INH-f- SM (2.0-3.0 gm / W) for the 12 months of the full course of the project C: Chest X- ray views were studied at every 2 to 3 months period throughout the full course of the project as of the improvement of the pulmonary lesions. ie: infiltrations and cavitary lesions separately. With the above study the comparison study was done between the Group I and Group II. D: Throughout the full course of the therapy the rates of the improvement of the pulmonary infiltrations were as follows: 1) Moderately to markedly improved cases Group I : 45 % Group ll: 11 % 2) Slightly improved cases Group I : 28% Group II: 44% E : The ratcs of the improvement of cavitaty lesions arc as follows : 1) Markedly improvcd cases Group I: 50% Group ll: 43% 2, Slightly improved cases Group I: 20% Group ll: 28% F: The net improvement rates of the pulmonary infiltration, excluding those of the first 6 months period, that is calIed absoltue comparison are as folIows: 1) Moderately to markedly improved cases Group I : 45% Group ll: 0; 2) SIightly improved cases Group I: 50% Group II: 40% G: The net improvement rates of the cavitary lesions, excluding those of the first 6 months period. ie: the absolute comparison, are as foIIows: 1) Markedly improved cases Group I : 34% Group ll: 0 2) Slightly improved cases Group i: 22% Group ll: 40%
