A Survey of the Prevalence Rate of Pulm. Tuberculosis in the R.O.K. Navy & Marine Corps

Abstract

The mass radiographic (Chest X-ray) survey were carried out to find out the pulmonary tuberculosis morbidity among the total personnel of ROK Navy & Marine corps, according to the annual physical examination programme, during the period from April 6. to Aug. 31, 1970. The results were as follows: 1) The total number of the examinees ( officers and enlistedmen) were 32, 368 ( Navy 15, 554, Marine Corps 16, 814), and that the examination rate to the total forces was 91. 83% ( Navy 95.5 %, Marine Corps 88.6%). 2) The radiographic examination proved 144 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis ((Navy 53 (36.8 %); Marine 91 (63.2 %)) among the examinees, therefore the Prevalence rate of pulmo. Tbc. was 0.44% ( N. 0.34, M. 0.54) . 3) The prevalence rate of pulmo. Tbc in officers was 0.38% ( N. 0.43, M. 0.30) 4) The prevalence rate of pulmo. Tbc in enlistedmen was 0.45 % ( N. 0.32, M. 0.56) 5) It was estimated that the prevalence rate in Marine Corps ( 0.54%) was higher than that of Navy ( 0.34%), but the cause of the difference were could not be explained.
