The Effects of Rifampicin on the Exocrine Gland of Pancreas in Rabbits

Abstract

Rifampicin is a new semnisynthetized antibiotics produced from the bacteria of rifampicin, which belongs to the streptomyces mediterani isolated from the soil of the mediterranean coast. Maggi (1666) and Arioli (1967) report ed that this antibiotics has a high antibacterial action one the gram positive and negative organisms. Subsequeently , in 1967 Pallanza and Maggi found that this antibiotics has a high antibacterial action especially on tuberculous bacilli. But the mechanism of rifampicien antibacterial action is still unknown. Wehrli (l968), Ezekiel (1963) an:ì Mauro (1969) reported that the basic of rifampicin’s antibacterial action is to inhibit the DNA- dependent-RNA polymerase and repress the synthesis of RNA as many other antibiotics. The purpose of this study is to observed the effects of Rifampicin on the pancreas of the rabbit, which is sensitive to the chemical substances and influence on the synthesis of proteins . The Rifarnpicin was given in a single or multiple injections and the amount of serum amylase , and morphological changes of the exocrine gland of the pancreas were examined. 1. All the experimental groups showed a little diminution in the amount of serum amylase at the early stag;e after Rifampicin injection. 2. Light microscopy revealed that crowdy swelling & decrease of RNA of the acinar cells of the pancreas. lt was conspicuous in Grop 2, but degeneration, atrophy, vaccuole formation and the distribution, of the zymogen granules are substantially the same in Group 2 and 3. 3. ln the ultrastructural changes of the exocrine gland of the pancreas, the dilation of Rough endoplasmic reticulum with detached ribosome are rermarkable from 6 to 18 hours after the rifampicin injection, and autophagic vaccules are observed after 24 to 48 hours at Group 3. 4. The increase of lipid in the cytoplasm is conspicuous in the Group 3 from 48 hours after injection.
