A Study of Resistance to Primary Drugs in In-patient

Abstract

During three years from November 1958 to December 1961, we observed and analyzed fo r bacteriological study in terms of primary (standard triple) drug resistance in randomly selected 207 actíve pulmonary tuberculosís cases who were hospitalized to the chest departmen t in N.M.C. and resuits were as follows : 1. Sex and age dístribution ín this study was 129 male an d 78 female. The pealk was 29-30 years of age group 67.6% of the total Thís is specially signíficant because thís age group is most actíve sociall y and ín terms of labor production. 2. According to chest X-ray fíndíngs, moderately advanced 47.8%, far aclvanced 48.8% and wíth cavítíes was 79. 2%. 3. Bacteríologically positive at time of admission was 80. 7%. Among those primary resistant to one or more of the standard drugs 37. 5%, sensítive to three drugs 62. 5 % ín no previous chemotherapy group and 84. 8 %, 15. 2% in prevlously treated group. This would indicate acquired resistance is very high among patient who medicated themselves before admission to the hospital.
