One Case of Intrathoracic Goiter Associated with Superior Vena Cava Syndrome

Abstract

Intrathoracic goiter is one of the few nonmalignant causes of the superior vena cava syndrome and account for onl y a small percent of all medias tina1 tumors. A 58- year-old woman with clinical features of superior vena cava syndrome had mediastina1 mass on chest radiograph. P percutaneous transthoracic 1ung biopsy, 1 -131 thyroid scan and chest CT were performed, and follicular adenoma of thyroid was confirmed preoperatively. After remova1 of the tumor mass by surgica1 operation, superior vena cava syndrome was completely relieved. The authors report one case of intrathoracic goiter associated with superior vena cava syndrome with the review of literature.
