A Case Report of Thymic Carcinoid

Abstract

Thymic carcinoids develop from cells of neural crest origin that differentiate into Kultschitrky cells. They can undergo malignant change to become carcinoid tumors. The thymic carcinoids are confirmed by the demonstration of argentaffin and argyrophil staining and neuro-excretory granules on electron microscope. About one third to one half of thymic carcinoids have been associated with paraneoplastic syndrome This is a case report of thymic carcinoid without endocrine disorder in a 36-year old male patient. This tumor mass was located in anterior mediastinum, and was resected.
