Endobronchial Chondroid Hamartoma of the Lung -Case Report-

Abstract

Hamartomas can occur in any organ of the body, the characteristic feature being that they are composed of disorganized elements of tissue normally present in that particular organ. Althought pulmonary hamartomas are not uncommon, those which are intrabronchial or multiple are rare. A correct preoperative diagnosis of endobronchial hamartoma is infrequently made. Rarely adequate tissue can be obtained through the bronchoscope, but usually thoracotomy is required. This is a report of endobronchial chondroid hamartoma identified with flexible bronchofiberscopic biopsies.
