A Case of Chronic Eosinophilic Pneumonia

Abstract

Chronic eosinophilic pneumonia has been defined as a disease of lung parenchyma that is recognized by a characteristic clinical history and a roentgenographic pattern of scattered nonsegmental peripheral infiltrates. The roentgenographic lesions rapidly resoluted with corticosteroid medication and recurrence of lesions was occurred in the same unusual locations during relapse. Some of these patients developed asthma with the onset of illness and the majority showed blood eosinophilia. It has been emphasized recently that these features are sufficiently specific to allow definitive diagnosis without the necessity of lung biopsy in most instances. Recently we had the opportunity to observe one case of chronic eosinophilic pneumonia combined with asthma and blood eosinophilia whose atypical presentation resulted in diagnostic confusion and delay of appropriate therapy. The histologic feature was confirmed by transbronchial lung biopsy. So we reported this case with brief review of literature.
