Abstract

This is the quantitative study on the concentration of the lysozyme in the knee joint fluid of 50 subjects, among which 20 cases were normal Korean male and female, 15 cases of rheumatoid arthritis of the knee, and the remain 15 cases of degenerative arthritis of the knee. The results obtained were as follows: 1. In the normal 20 subjects, the synovial concentration of lysozyme was found to be variable from 8.40 to 9.00 ug/ml with the average of 8.69 µg/ml. 2. In the subjects with rheumatoid arthritis, the value ranged from 10.20 to 11.00 µg/ml with the average of 10.75 µg/ml, and it seemed to be valuable as a diagnostic procedure of the disease. 3. In the subjects with degenerative arthritis. the enzyme level was varied from 10.80 to 12.30 µg/ml with the average 11.66 µg/ml, but for this condition further study should to be done for the evaluation of diagnostic value.
