The value of SPECT in hepatic disease

Abstract

The authors reviewed 104 cases of SPECT liver image performed at Soonchunhyang university hospital from August1985 to July 1986, and compared with ultrasonographic finding of 87 cases of same patients. We also analyzed liverphantom image by SPECT compared with gamma camera static scan for experimental study. The summary results were asfollows: 1. 9mm sized small lesions are detected by SPECT, which are regardless of depth in experimental study. 2.The cold defect of leions and normal structure of liver which cannot be differentiated in gamma camera static scanis well diagnosed by SPECT. 3. The location and volume of lesions can be relatively well calculated by SPECT. 4.The accuracy of focal liver diseases is 91.5% in SPECT and 87.3% in ultrasonography. 5. The sensitivity andspecificity of SPECT are 90.9%, 93.3% in focal liver diseases and 75.9%, 80.8%% in diffuse parenchymal liverdiseases. The diagnostic value of SPECT in liver diseases will be increased as the improved quality of imageaccoridng to the upgrade of system.
