A sutudy on 618 cases of cardiovascular angiography

Abstract

After introduction of percutaneous transfemoral arteriographic method by Seldinger in 1953, angiocardiographictechnique has been improved and nowadays angiocardiography is a essential confirmative diagnostic procedure invarious inflammatory and neoplastic disease as well as in cardiovascular disease. At department of Radiology,Seoul National University Hospital, in total 618 patients, angiocardiographic study were done from August 1971 toSeptember 1976. Age and sex distribution, angiographic technique, disease entity classification, diagnosticaccuracy and complications were comprehensively analyzed. 1. Among total 618 patients, 389 patients were male and 229 were female. Age distribution was even from 1 month to 39 year. Decreased number over age of 40. 2. Amongtotal 824 angiocardiographic study, cardiac angiography were 269 cases, thoracic aorta and its brancharteriography 67 cases, abdominal aorta and its branch 330 cases, extremity arteriography 68 cases and venography including vena cavography were 81 cases. 3. Each disease entity classification reveals 83 cases of T.O.F, 39 cases of Buerger's disease, 32 cases of mitral insufficiency, 20 cases of Takayasu's arteritis, 25 cases of aorticinsufficiency, 21 cases of vena cava obstruction, 14 cases of hypernephroma and 13 cases of renal cyst, ect. 4. 18cases of angiocardiographic failure were experienced and failure rate is 2.9%. 5. 4 cases of major complications were noted. 2 patients died, and mortality rate 0.3% 6. Among total 618 cases, correct diagnosis was possible in547 cases and diagnostic accuracy was 88.5%. 7. Angiocardiography is a saft and accurate diagnostic procedure inall cardiovascular disease as well as other inflammatory and neoplastic disease.
