An alaysis of radiological findings of renal tuberculosis

Abstract

Radiological study is mandatory procedure in diagnosis, in estimation of disease extent, and in detection ofcomplication during follow-up period of renal tuberculosis. Clinical and radiological findings of 63 cases ofrenal tuberculosis, diagnosed during past 4 years at Seoul National University, are analysed and presented. Thediagnosis was based on histopathologically and/or microbiologically in all cases. The results are as follows; 1.The ratio of male to female was 5:4 and peak incidence was in third decade. 2. Gross hematuria, urinary frequency,flank pain and dysuria were main symptoms. 3. Simple chest P-A films revealed, pulmonary tuberculosis in 52%, andamong them 16% of the cases were active lesion. 4. In 35% of the cases, bilateral renal tuberculosis was observed,and urographic findings were calyectasis, non-visualization, papillary cavitation, hydronephrosis and infundibularnarrowing in order of frequency. 5. 90% of cases were advanced lesion and 57% of cases were far advanced lesion,based on Lattimer's classification.
