Radiological findings of neuroblastoma

Abstract

Neuroblastoma is predominatly a malignant tumor of young children, the roentgenologic examination is animportant clinical tool in the study of patient. During 6 years from Jan. 1972 to Feb. 1978, clinical andradiological findings of 21 cases of proven neurblastoma at Seoul National University Hospital are anlaysed. Theresults are as follows; 1. The meanage is 4.5 years and the relation of male was 2.5:1. 2. Main symptoms arepalpable abdominal mass, 14 cases (66%) hepatomegaly 13 cases (62%), bone pain and lymphnode enlargement, each 10cases and 9 cases (43%) of fever. 3. 19 cases have their origin in the adrenal and 3 cases in retroperitoneum.Tumor calcification is fine dense stippled appearance and demonstrated in 5 cases (24%). 4. Kidney function isnormal except 1 case of nonvisualization. 5. Proximal ureters are displaced laterally in 12 cases (57%) suggestingfrequent retroperitoneal lymphnode metastasis. 6. Evidence of bone metastasis is demonstrated in 13 case (62%).Stirking feature of the skeletal lesions was their tendency toward a bilaterally and symmetrical distribution.
