Abstract

A 48-year-old man who had been intermittently treated with therapeutic doses of colchicine for gout ingested about 36mg of colchicine with suicidal intent. He suffered from acute multisystem toxicity including gastrointestinal disoders, bone marrow suppression, rhabdomyolysis, electrolyte derangements, neuromuscular abnormalities and alopecia, but he ultimately recovered with the supportive therapy. We report a case of acute colchicine toxicity from a single overdose with review of the literature.
