Common Atrioventricular Canal Diagnosed by Contrast Echocardiography Report of Two Cases

Abstract

Clinical, echocardiographic and cardiac catheterization data on two cases of common atrioventricular canal were reported. In both cases, definitive diagnosis was possible by echocardiography including contrast study done during cardiac catheterization. In case 1, both routine and contrast echocardiographic findings were confirmed by autopsy. In case 2, contrast echocardiograms disclosed ashunt at the ventricular level, which was not clearly demonstrated by the oximetric study of the blood sampled from the right ventricle. These suggest that echocardiography particularly contrast study can be one of useful diagnostic tools in this congenital anomaly.
