Abstract

PURPOSE
To assess the values of preoperative US-guided localization and postoperative specimen US in nonpalpable breast masses. MATERIALS & METHODS: A total of 28 US-guided localizations were performed with hook localizer needles for recent 2 years. All cases had previous mammography and US studies. Postoperative specimen US was done in 7 cases.
RESULTS
Histologic diagnosis was available in all cases. Of the 28 cases, 24 cases were benign (86%) and 4, malignant(14%). The lesions were ranged from 0,6 to 2.0 cm in diameter(mean, 1.1 cm). On 7 specimen US, the lesions were identified in all cases.
CONCLUSION
Preoperative US-guided localization is an accurate and easy method for surgical biopsy of nonpalpable breast masses. Postoperative specimen US is also useful to confirm successful removal of the lesion.
