A Case of Transient Acantholytic Dermatosis

Abstract

Transient acantholytic dermatosis is characterized by the transient appearance of pruritic, scattered, and histologic finding of focal acantholytic changes, which is described as five patterns including Darier-White type, pemphigus vulgaris type, pemphigus foliaceus type, Hailey-Hailey type, and spongiotic form with acantholysis. We present a case of transient acantholytic dermatosis which occurred in a 50-year-old man with preexisting cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis and drug-induced acute renal failure. The patient showed numerous skin-colored or erythematous papules on the chest and upper extremities and histologic findings were consistent with transient acanthoytic dermatosis, Hailey-Hailey type. He was treated with antihistamine only, and the skin lesions showed a complete resolution after a month.
