A Case of Multiple Biliary Hamartoma Presenting with Advanced Stomach Cancer

Abstract

Biliary hamartoma is a rare benign tumor usually found in childhood, especially during the first two years of life. It is extremely rare to encounter biliary hamartoma in adults. It does not show symptoms or abnormal outcomes of liver tests. In most cases, it is found incidentally during autopsy or radiological examination. We experienced a 47-year-old male with advanced gastric cancer and multiple nodular lesions in the liver. On abdominal CT, there were multiple hypodense nodular lesions throughout the liver. This patient was suspected to have multiple liver metastasis of gastric cancer. However, there was no suspected malignant lesion on laparoscopic finding. In operative finding, there were multiple dark greenish-colored small sized cysts & nodules in the liver which were consistent with biliary harmatoma pathologically. We report a rare case of biliary hamartoma which should be differentiated from metastatic tumor clinicopathologically.
